I moved my blog!

Blowing a good-bye kiss to Blogger

Last week I saw someone post about how you could easily migrate all of your old Blogger posts to your WordPress site, so I made that one of my goals for this week... And today, while drinking my second cup of tea, I did it. I did it all by myself, too. I figured out how to migrate it, how to change the author name, how to make it show up on my website, everything. You can go see it HERE.

Blogger has served me well for the few years I've used it, but I have had some problems from time to time. But mostly, when I started this blog I was an amateur dancer who just wanted to share her progress when she challenged herself to dance every day for a year. Now that I have my eyes on a professional career, it makes more sense to have my blog rolled into my website (which I didn't have when I set up this blog).

I'll be leaving this blog up, as I know people have linked to some of my old posts in the past and I want those links to remain active. But from now on you can find new material AND all of my old posts (complete with comments!) over at sophiadances.com. I hope I'll see you all over there :)

Class and little changes

Day 103 of practice.

I just made a couple of small changes to this blog... added some links and bands, and I changed both of those lists to be sorted alphabetically, because it's easier than keeping them sorted by some imaginary level of importance.

Anyway, I spent tonight at The Dance Loft for tribal and balancing props. My new tray worked out really well, it didn't even come close to falling off of my head, unlike my obnoxious sword. I got to spend a lot of time leading my fellow students through slow moves, with and without props, which was really good practice for me.

Good Practice, and Music Links

Day 11 of Practice

Just got done with another late-night practice. You would think that in the winter months, I would practice during the day when it's warmer, but no, I waste the warm hours working on the computer and then wonder why my muscles are so cold when I dance. I'll try to fix that this week.

Most of tonight's practice was just working on Anaya Tribal moves to my Homework playlist -- two songs each fast and slow -- plus practicing some solo moves to "Beauty Beats" by Beats Antique. But then I realized that I had a few minutes left, I wanted to practice my veil moves, and I was out of slow songs on that playlist. I switched over to my Slow playlist and found "Pilgrimage of Lost Children" by Lisa Gerrard. I don't practice to it often, because it's so slow and stately, but the mysterious vocals really suit the veil! I can't wait to learn more moves on Wednesday so I can continue to work to this beautiful song!

And speaking of music, if you direct your attention to the left-hand side of the screen, you'll see that I have begun to compile a list of bands mentioned on this blog! Be warned that many of the sites have music that plays automatically. They're also rather graphics-intensive, so if you're still on dial-up, you may be in for a long wait.
